Salary Calculator – Hourly, Annual & Take-Home

Last updated: May 31, 2026

Written by Blake Boege

A salary calculator is a financial utility that converts earnings between different pay frequencies, most commonly converting annual gross salary to an hourly wage or vice versa. It standardizes salary metrics using a standard full-time year of 2,080 working hours (40 hours per week for 52 weeks) but allows adjustments for custom weekly schedules and unpaid time off. Employees, freelancers, and human resource professionals use this tool to compare job offers, estimate paychecks, and understand the real hourly value of salaried positions.

Use this free salary calculator to convert an annual salary to its hourly equivalent, or calculate your yearly salary from an hourly wage.

How it works

How it works

Use this salary calculator to perform salary to hourly conversions and calculate your gross annual salary. This tool supports two modes for full flexibility:

  • Salary to Hourly Mode: Converts gross annual income into hourly equivalents. Supports paid time off adjustments (PTO) to compute your working-hours rate.
  • Hourly to Salary Mode: Converts an hourly rate into annual, monthly, and pay-period grosses, allowing for custom unpaid time off configurations.

For standard full-time schedules, calculations assume 40 hours per week and 52 weeks per year (totaling 2,080 hours per year).

Worked Examples

1. Salary to Hourly Example:

At a $80,000 annual salary on a standard 40 hours per week, 52-week schedule:

  • Total yearly hours: 40 × 52 = 2,080 hours
  • Standard Hourly Rate: $80,000 ÷ 2,080 = $38.46 / hour
  • Weekly Equivalent: $80,000 ÷ 52 = $1,538.46
  • Monthly Equivalent: $80,000 ÷ 12 = $6,666.67

2. Hourly to Salary Example:

If you earn $30 per hour and work 35 hours per week with 2 weeks of unpaid time off (50 working weeks):

  • Weekly Gross Pay: $30 × 35 = $1,050
  • Annual Salary: $1,050 × 50 weeks = $52,500 / year
  • Monthly Equivalent: $52,500 ÷ 12 = $4,375.00

Frequently asked questions

Gross salary is the total compensation earned before any taxes, retirement contributions, or healthcare deductions are taken out. Net salary (or take-home pay) is the actual amount that deposits into your bank account after all taxes and withholdings have been deducted.

To convert an hourly wage to an annual salary, multiply the hourly rate by the hours worked per week and by the weeks worked per year. On a standard full-time schedule (40 hours/week, 52 weeks/year), the multiplier is 2,080 hours. For example, $25/hour × 2,080 = $52,000/year.

Divide the annual gross salary by the total hours worked in a year. The basic formula is: hourly rate = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × weeks per year). At 40 hours per week for 52 weeks (2,080 hours), a $60,000 salary is approximately $28.85 per hour.

Standard annual pay period divisions are: Weekly (annual ÷ 52), Biweekly (annual ÷ 26), Semi-monthly (annual ÷ 24), Monthly (annual ÷ 12), and Daily (annual ÷ 260, assuming 5 working days per week).
