Time Unit Converter
Last updated: June 19, 2026
A time unit converter is a calculation utility that translates time durations between different units of time. The converter supports conversions across milliseconds, seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades, and centuries. It applies standard calendrical and sexagesimal conversion constants, such as sixty seconds in a minute, twenty-four hours in a day, and three hundred sixty-five point twenty-five days in a Julian year, to ensure precision. Project managers, developers, and students use this tool to standardize time measurements.
Pick a 'from' unit, a 'to' unit, and enter a value. The calculator returns the converted result plus equivalents in every supported time unit.
Quick Answer
Convert time durations between seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, and years. Enter the duration value and select your starting and target units for instant conversion results.
Decimals and negative values are accepted. · e.g. 1
Approximate units: 1 month ≈ 30.4375 days, 1 year = 365.25 days (accounting for leap years on average). Exact months/years vary; use the Time Calculator for clock-time arithmetic on specific dates.
Hour → Minute
60 min
1 h = 60 min
1 hour = 3,600 s · 1 day = 86,400 s · 1 week = 7 days · 1 month ≈ 30.4375 days · 1 year = 365.25 days. Months and years are approximate averages.
Examples
1 hour to minutes
= 60 min
1 day to seconds
= 86,400 s
1 year to days
= 365.25 d
How it works
All units are stored as factors relative to the second. Convert through the second base: value times source factor gives seconds, then divide by target factor.
Formula · output = value × factor(from) ÷ factor(to)
Exact factors: 1 min = 60 s · 1 h = 3,600 s · 1 day = 86,400 s · 1 week = 7 days. Approximate factors: 1 month = 30.4375 days · 1 year = 365.25 days.

Frequently asked questions
30.4375 days exactly, which is 365.25 ÷ 12. This is the average month length across a Julian year (which already accounts for leap years on average). Real months vary from 28 to 31 days, so the calculator value won't match any single calendar month.
365.25 days, which is the Julian year. This accounts for leap years on average: 3 years of 365 days plus 1 year of 366 days gives 365.25 days per year over a 4-year cycle. The Gregorian average is 365.2425 days (very slightly shorter), but 365.25 is the standard convention for unit conversion.
Time Calculator does clock arithmetic: 'how long is it between 9:30 AM and 3:45 PM?', 'add 2:30 to 11:15 AM'. Time Unit Converter does pure unit conversion: 'how many seconds in 3.5 hours?', 'how many days in 6 months?'. Different shape of question; both useful.
There isn't one. Calendar months have 28, 29, 30, or 31 days. Calendar years have 365 or 366. For a unit converter that has to produce one answer, an average is the practical choice. Use the Date Calculator for exact span-of-time math on specific dates.
Computing, sports timing, animation, network latency. 1 second = 1,000 milliseconds. Web requests typically take 50 to 500 ms. Human reaction time is around 250 ms. Display refresh rates: 60 Hz = 16.67 ms per frame.
Not directly, but you can compute them: 1 decade = 10 years, 1 century = 100 years, 1 millennium = 1,000 years. Just multiply the year value. The calculator caps the unit list at years to keep it focused on common everyday conversions.
