A body shape calculator is a fashion and design utility that classifies an individual's physical silhouette by analyzing the relative proportions between bust, waist, and hips. By comparing differences and ratio relationships (such as waist-to-hip and bust-to-hip), it assigns a shape category (Hourglass, Rectangle, Pear, Spoon, or Inverted Triangle) to assist with tailoring and wardrobe styling.

Estimate your body shape category using bust, waist, and hip proportions. This tool helps you identify your silhouette shape to assist with styling and wardrobe selections.

Quick Answer

Determine your body shape category from bust, waist, and hip ratios. Easily identify if your silhouette matches hourglass, pear, apple, or rectangle patterns.

Examples

36 in bust, 27 in waist, 38 in hip

Body Shape: Pear

36 in bust, 26 in waist, 36 in hip

Body Shape: Hourglass

34 in bust, 30 in waist, 35 in hip

Body Shape: Rectangle

How it works

Body shape classification is calculated by analyzing the absolute differences and ratios between bust, waist, and hip measurements:

Hourglass Shape:

Bust and Hips are balanced (difference ≤ 2 in) AND waist is small (Bust − Waist ≥ 8 in AND Hip − Waist ≥ 8 in).

Pear (Triangle) Shape:

Hips are significantly wider than Bust (Hip − Bust ≥ 3 in).

Inverted Triangle Shape:

Bust is significantly wider than Hips (Bust − Hip ≥ 3 in).

Rectangle Shape:

Bust, Waist, and Hips are relatively straight (Waist is less than 8 in smaller than Bust/Hip).

Frequently asked questions

It compares the mathematical proportions between your bust, waist, and hips. By analyzing the difference ratios (such as bust-to-waist or hip-to-bust), the algorithm classifies your silhouette into standard categories like Hourglass, Rectangle, Inverted Triangle, or Pear.

Common shapes include: Hourglass (bust and hips are balanced with a narrow waist), Pear/Triangle (hips are wider than bust), Rectangle/Banana (bust, waist, and hips are relatively uniform), and Inverted Triangle (bust is wider than hips).

Use a soft measuring tape. For the bust, measure around the fullest part of your chest. For the waist, measure around the narrowest part (usually just above the belly button). For the hips, measure around the widest part of your buttocks.

Yes. Shifts in weight, muscle distribution, pregnancy, and aging can alter the measurements and ratio relationships between your bust, waist, and hips, resulting in a different shape classification.
