Weighted Grade Calculator
Last updated: June 19, 2026
A weighted grade calculator is an academic evaluation tool that computes an overall course grade when different assignments or categories are assigned different percentage weights (e.g., exams are worth 50%, homework 30%, participation 20%). It multiplies each category's score by its designated weight and sums the results. This is the standard grading method used in most middle school, high school, and university syllabi.
List each category — assignments, quizzes, projects, exams — with the grade you earned and the weight it carries. We compute the weighted course average.
Quick Answer
Calculate your overall class grade when assignments have different percentage weights. Enter your scores and category weights (like tests, homework, and quizzes) to find your weighted average.
Grades and weights are in percent. Weights don't have to sum to 100 — we normalize what you enter.
Letter grade · B+
88.3%
Total weight entered: 100%
Examples
Homework 95% × 30%, Midterm 82% × 30%, Final 88% × 40%
= 88.30%
Quizzes 90% × 20%, Projects 84% × 35%, Exam 78% × 45%
= 82.50%
How it works
A weighted average multiplies each grade by its weight, sums the results, and divides by the total weight.
Weighted grade · Σ(gradei × weighti) ÷ Σ(weighti)

Frequently asked questions
A weighted grade is an average where each item counts proportionally to its assigned weight. A 100% on a 30%-weighted final affects your average more than a 100% on a 5%-weighted homework assignment.
Not for this calculator — we normalize the weights you enter, so a partial weighting still works (useful when you only care about the items you've completed so far).
Your syllabus is the source of truth. A typical breakdown might be 40% exams, 30% homework, 20% projects, 10% participation.
Yes — add it as a category with a weight that matches what your professor specified, or assign it a small weight (e.g., 2%) and a grade above 100%.
