A Sakrete concrete calculator is a construction tool designed to compute the required quantity of pre-mixed concrete bags (specifically Sakrete-brand bags) for a given project volume. By converting slab dimensions (length, width, and thickness) into cubic feet and factoring in a waste allowance, it divides the total volume by the standard yield of standard bag weights (0.60 cubic feet for an 80 lb bag, 0.45 for 60 lb, and 0.30 for 40 lb) to find the total bag count.
Calculate the total number of Sakrete pre-mix concrete bags required for your project. Choose between 40 lb, 60 lb, and 80 lb bags, specify your slab's dimensions and waste percentage, and get instant results.
Quick Answer
Calculate the exact number of 40 lb, 60 lb, or 80 lb Sakrete concrete bags required for a slab. Enter length, width, thickness, and waste allowance.
Slab Dimensions
Patios and slabs are commonly 4–6 inches.
We recommend 10% for spills and grade gaps.
Sakrete bag size
Sakrete 80 lb bags (incl. waste)
62
61.1 bags exactly, rounded up
At 1.23 yd³, ordering ready-mix concrete from a truck is typically cheaper and easier than mixing 62 bags by hand.
Examples
10 ft × 10 ft × 4 in slab with 80 lb bags
≈ 56 bags (incl. 10% waste)
5 ft × 5 ft × 6 in slab with 60 lb bags
≈ 31 bags (incl. 10% waste)
3 ft × 3 ft × 4 in footing pad with 40 lb bags
≈ 11 bags (incl. 10% waste)
How it works
The calculator converts slab measurements to cubic volume in feet, applies the waste factor, and divides by the precise cubic foot yield of the selected bag weight:
Volume (Cubic Feet):
Volume = Length (ft) × Width (ft) × (Thickness (in) ÷ 12)
Sakrete Bag Yields:
80 lb bag yield = 0.60 ft³
60 lb bag yield = 0.45 ft³
40 lb bag yield = 0.30 ft³
Bag Calculation:
Total Bags = Ceil((Volume × (1 + Waste ÷ 100)) ÷ Bag Yield)

Frequently asked questions
It depends on the bag size. A standard 80 lb bag of Sakrete yields approximately 0.60 cubic feet. A 60 lb bag yields 0.45 cubic feet, and a 40 lb bag yields 0.30 cubic feet.
One cubic yard contains 27 cubic feet. Therefore, you would need 45 bags of 80 lb mix, 60 bags of 60 lb mix, or 90 bags of 40 lb mix to equal one cubic yard of concrete volume.
Yes. Adding a 10% waste allowance is standard practice in masonry projects to account for spillage, inconsistencies in the subgrade depth, and over-pouring at slab edges.
If your project requires more than 1 cubic yard of concrete (approx. 45 bags of 80 lb mix), mixing by hand becomes extremely labor-intensive. In such cases, ordering ready-mix delivered by a truck is often more cost-effective and saves significant time.
