US vs. Imperial Fluid Ounce divergence
Not only do US and Imperial quarts contain a different number of ounces (32 vs. 40), but the ounces themselves are slightly different size:
- One US fluid ounce is equal to approximately 29.57 mL.
- One Imperial fluid ounce is equal to approximately 28.41 mL.
As a result, a UK Imperial quart (1,136.52 mL) is about 20% larger than a standard US liquid quart (946.35 mL).
